New Member Flow

0.) The official invite link to this server is https://discord.gg/across

1.) When people join, they will have to take a couple of steps to prove that they are not bots. This is frustrating, but will ultimately improve the quality of this server. First, they have to check that they agree to follow server rules. This will take them to the rules page. After skipping over the rules, they will need to perform a captcha to gain access to the rest of the server.

NOTE: The captcha will redirect users to a web-based captcha. This has caused issues for some users who try this on mobile. We recommend using a desktop computer for this whenever possible. If you are limited to mobile, try using a different browser and try it with your phone in “horizontal” view instead of “vertical” view.

2.) After making it past the bot filters, new members will have the @welcome role. This can be thought of as a visitor pass, as it is meant for people who want to check things out but aren’t interested in being a contributor. It allows you to see several parts of the server (including the protocol section), but limits the users ability to interact on the server.

3.) The next step is to become a @Co-founders. If you are here to make a meaningful impact on the future of the protocol, you are encouraged to head over to 🏛|be-a-co-founder . Please read about what it means to be a co-founder. If this resonates with you, you are able to accept the role by emoji reacting to the post in that channel.

4.) As a co-founder, you will now have the ability to start interacting in the server. Because you are here to contribute, you are encouraged to join a team. The organization of the teams will grow and evolve as our community grows and evolves. Joining a team will give you the ability to see new areas of the server. It is in the best interest of everyone if you only join a team that you’re interested in contributing to. To join a team, you’ll want to check out 🙋|start-contributing .

5.) All of the above steps can be thought of as the steps to getting started. At this point you’ve:

declared your interest in contributing

declared how you’d like to contribute

given a meaningful introduction to who you are

6.) The next step is to get familiar with the server setup and the details of the Across protocol. There are some server permissions that are still unavailable to you at this point. This is SUPER frustrating- I know. But rest assured, you will unlock these permissions as you engage in the server and begin to get up to speed with everything going on.

You will be able to view everything going on in the Protocol section from the moment you join the server. This is an intentional design feature to allow for full transparency. Adding in restrictions for new users allows these channels to be productive work spaces. In order for the community to come to a consensus on a path forward, we need to establish an environment where meaningful conversations are not interrupted by casual chit chat or repeated questions and ideas.

Thank you for being here. Your contributions will make a difference.
